A touch of drama for Gill and Cameron’s big day

Tying the knot in the same hotel where an episode of TV gold, Mr Bean, was filmed was a big tick for Cameron Cosgrave – Lewsey and his drama loving new wife Gill on their big day.

They wanted their wedding day to reflect their love of family and FUN – and they even had their own drag queen Miss Hilsea Lido taking on the role of MC for the day.

Top Tips

  • Make sure you stick to your budget. It’s easy to get carried away and spend too much.

  • We ordered far too many cakes – so be realistic with what people are going to eat.

Cameron and Gill met when they were students in the city and they were delighted to have family joining them from the Midlands to enjoy their wedding day.

“It was so important for us to get married in a place that our families could enjoy and the Queens was the perfect choice,” explained Gill.

“I work with Miss Hilsea Lido and we are great friends with her and her husband. When she offered to MC for us, we were so pleased and she arranged for a singer and magician to entertain us too.”

They are both huge fans of Ru Paul’s Drag Race and their tables at the wedding breakfast were named after leading drag queens inc Blu Hydrangea, who stayed at the hotel for Portsmouth Pride in 2022.

Gill, studied drama and performance and now works at Groundlings Theatre near Portsmouth Hard, while Cameron works at Hayling Island Golf Club.

“My strongest memory of our big day was seeing the Elizabeth Room fully dressed for the wedding, hearing the music kick-in and then seeing Gill walking down aisle.

“She looked incredible and we all felt so emotional,” recalled Cameron.

The happy couple were able to share their wedding day with their 15-month-old daughter Isabelle – and as you can see the photos of the happy family are just adorable.

Centre pieces and candelabras were made by the couple’s talented aunts and the red theme brought a pop of colour to the day – especially as Gill had 8 bridesmaids including three of her sisters.

“We wanted the day to be a lot of fun and it certainly turned out that way. Everyone was on the dance floor and I remember thinking I wanted the dancing to go on and on,” said Gill.
