Patience is a virtue

It was a case of third time lucky for Alana and Stu Burnett when it came to holding their wedding day at the Queens Hotel.

Planning for their big day started in December 2018, when the couple first checked out the Elizabeth Room. Initial plans to marry in 2020 were delayed twice as a result of the pandemic and the wedding eventually took place in August 2021.

Top Tips

  • Don’t allow yourself to get too stressed on the day. You have spent so long planning it - now’s the time to enjoy it …

  • Don’t get bogged down in the detail - nobody else will notice if something you planned doesn’t quite happen.

“So many people were going through tough times as a result of the pandemic so having to re-arrange the date wasn’t the biggest thing to worry about.

“Nevertheless, when our wedding day actually happened, it did feel emotional because it was the first time that everybody had been able to get together,” said Alana, who works in PR.

When it came to choosing her dress, Alana was very nearly caught on the horns of a dilemma. A well-meaning friend arranged for her to try on wedding dresses made by designer Vivienne Westwood.

“I fell in love with one of the dresses – and the only problem was it cost £10,000. I kept looking at other dresses but nothing compared to that original one.

“Thankfully when I visited Mousetrap Boutique in Havant, I found a dress that made me feel as good as the Vivienne Westwood one – it reminded me of the one Carrie wore in the Sex in the City movie,” she said.

After a beautiful ceremony at the Cathedral in Old Portsmouth, the happy couple and their guests celebrated in style at the Queens Hotel.

The Queens Hotel’s beautiful lobby, enchanting Elizabeth Room and access to the garden, provided the perfect backdrop for the wedding.

And it was the little details that really impressed Alana..

“At the end of our wonderful day, when we went up to the bedroom, the events team had arranged for a selection of canapes to be there along with some wedding cake.

“It was perfect to be able to relax … I remember eating three slices of cake and thinking, this is quite literally the happiest day of my life,” she said.
