Rumina’s planning her career at the Queens Hotel

Anyone booking into the Queens Hotel can’t help but be bowled over by the warm welcome they receive from receptionist Rumina Begum.

She started working at the hotel in December 2018 and it didn’t take her long to fall for the charms of the beautiful building and pick up the skills needed for her new role.

“I just love the Queens. She has a personality all of her own. My Mum and Dad stayed here when I was a baby and growing up in Portsmouth, I have known her all my life.

“It didn’t take me long to get to grips with my role here – I love talking to people and I was able to pick it up quickly and I really enjoy the work,” she said.

In the relatively short time Rumina has been working at the hotel she has witnessed the complete transformation of the lobby.

“I love the fact that every day is different and I’ve seen the hotel quite literally transform around me,” she said.

Rumina graduated from the University of Portsmouth with a degree in International Business and she is now looking forward to putting her qualification to work.

“As part of my degree, I studied for a year in Strasbourg in France. While I did miss my home, I learned so much and I was keen to put what I have learned into practice,” she explained.

Away from work, Rumina admitted she loves to try new foods and flavours, traveling to London and beyond to sample delicious new tastes.

Rumina’s professionalism and attention to detail have not gone unnoticed and she was delighted when she was told the hotel was really keen to nurture her skills in a business development role.

“I’m so pleased I am going to be able to progress my career at the hotel and for my first project I am working on the introduction of a new booking system which will revolutionise the way we do things here.

“There is lots to learn and different training sessions to organise but I love to learn new things.

“Problem solving on the spot is key to my role and sharing solutions with my colleagues is what I really love to do,” she said.

Members of staff absolutely adore Rumina, she really brightens everyones day. Our Reservations manager Jason thinks very highly of Rumina: ”I first met Rumina on her interview and I instantly saw how professional, driven and articulate she was. Her professionalism and can do attitude are a credit to the hotel. ”

Rumina is extremely efficient and attentive, which is a great help with all of the Events and Weddings that we hold. Ellie mentions: ”Any task that I ask for help with, I know that she will complete it quickly and to a very high standard. She is also a warm and lovely individual, who is an honour to work with.’
