Southsea based Solent Sky Services have been helping us to capture the beauty of the Queens Hotel so we can share it with you.
MD Michael Wood started his drone, aerial film and photography services business three years ago. His background is in surveying and he has worked for 15 years in the insurance industry before focusing on his new venture.
“I’m on a big learning curve and every day is a school day and I love it. I’ve been lucky enough to work with some lovely companies including the Queens Hotel.
“I have chosen to concentrate on working with film and I work with photographers who are expert in capturing great images.
“I love the whole process from start to completion – one of the most surprising and enjoyable jobs this year was working on Managing Director Farid Yeganeh’s birthday party. It was a wonderful event and we really enjoyed being able to capture such a special gathering.”
No stranger to unusual commissions, one of the most memorable assignments this year involved filming on one of the famous Solent forts.
“We had done some work before with the forts and we were recommended to a production company in London, who were going to be shooting an advert on one of the forts.
“It turned out we were doing the drone work for an advert featuring none other than Eric Cantona. We got to go out to the fort on the same boat as Eric and his brothers and it was great to be able to point out local landmarks.”
Looking to the future, Michael is looking forward to continuing to work with the Queens Hotel and he is keen to take on an apprentice to help him to expand his business.
“We really enjoy working with the Queens Hotel – it’s such an elegant building and the team here are great to work with.
“It’s a really exciting journey,” he said.
Social media co-ordinator at the Queens Hotel, Aina Sutka, said:
“We really enjoy working with Michael and his team – and that’s why we wanted to recognise them as our supplier of the month.”
